Zwei Wealth updates its asset manager ratings every six months using a comprehensive set of criteria. The rating provides an initial assessment. An individual evaluation of an asset management solution must also consider its track record and costs.

16 % of Ratings Were Adjusted

During the latest update, 16 % of Provider Ratings were changed. Upgrades and downgrades were primarily driven by the performance of providers’ live portfolios on the Wealth Office Platform. Ratings improved for 7 % of providers, while 9 % were downgraded. The past twelve months were particularly challenging for active asset managers that rely on fundamental stock selection. Portfolio managers following a quality-focused investment approach also frequently struggled to outperform broad market indices.

The Group of Top-Rated Managers Remains Small

Overall, 12 % of providers on the platform achieved a rating of 3.6 or higher, placing them in the top category of «Very Good». A total of 53 % received a rating of at least 3.3 and were therefore classified as «Good» or «Very Good». The median rating is 3.2.

The highest rating category mainly comprises specialised, mid-sized asset managers that focus on one or two asset classes and follow a clearly defined investment strategy. Many manage between CHF 2 billion and CHF 4 billion in assets, employ 15 to 30 people and have a track record of more than 15 years. Many are also partner-led or family-run.

Smaller and mid-sized private banks with compelling flagship portfolios and expertise in selected areas are also represented in the upper rating categories. As experience and the length of the track record carry significant weight in our assessment, younger companies may receive a lower rating. Some nevertheless show strong potential, offer cost-effective solutions and have outperformed, making them particularly attractive for certain clients.
