Beneath the Surface – An Evening Full of Complexity and Nuances
«Beneath the Surface» saw Anna Maier invite guests to an exhibition exploring the many layers of life. The vernissage at Villa Mythenstein offered space for art, personal stories, and conversations about what so often remains hidden beneath the surface.

On May 21, 2026, Zwei Wealth hosted the vernissage "Beneath the Surface" by Anna Maier at Villa Mythenstein on Zurich's Genferstrasse. The exhibition was met with great interest and numerous guests strolled from room to room on the spacious first floor of the villa and looked at the sometimes colorful works consisting of wild yet harmonious brushstrokes ("In My Head - Fragments" and "Energía - Fragments"), the calm underwater world painting "Underwater Love II" in harmonious colors or the work "Home" in elegant shades of green, which thanks to its resin coating wonderfully reflected the light as if it were stained glass.
As soon as you enter the villa, one of the large-format works at the top of the staircase in the entrance area attracted attention: a circular picture with an organic shape that blends beautifully into its surroundings. The work consists of many superimposed layers of paint, which on the one hand makes it particularly interesting for the observer, as a new shade of color seems to reveal itself with every glance. On the other hand, this complexity can also be understood as an allusion to us, the human being, and life with all its contrasts.
In conversation with Nadeschda Hoidn Wiede, Anna Maier talks about one of her circular paintings that reflects this complexity and contradiction particularly well: When the Ukraine war began in February 2022, Europe was in shock - including Anna Maier. She picked up a paintbrush and tried to somehow externalize what was going on inside. The result was - unsurprisingly - a gloomy work with dark colors. Unsightly and unsaleable. Instead of simply painting a new picture, Anna Maier then began to apply light pastel tones over the dark paint, layer by layer. The result is a work that tells a story as old as humanity itself: one of misery and hope, of failure and resurrection. You realize that the TV presenter, who usually tells the stories of others, also has her own story - one that goes far beyond the surface. "Beneath the Surface", in other words.
In conversation with Nadeschda Hoidn Wiede, the presenter comes to the fore again. In between, Anna Maier took the microphone herself and asked her interviewer a few questions. The result was a pleasant conversation in which we learned, for example, that Anna Maier's life has always been accompanied by art. Her parents' house always smelled of turpentine and there was always a canvas with an unfinished painting somewhere. When she had her own daughter, she turned more intensively to art herself. Not because of nostalgic memories of her own childhood; the power woman simply got bored during her maternity leave, as she explained with a laugh - followed by a loving wink to her now grown-up daughter, who was also in the audience.
During the brief exchange between the two women, it also became clear again why Zwei Wealth and art go so well together: Zwei Wealth sees wealth as far more than just assets, numbers and financial investments - but also culture, encounters and the ability to be touched by art. The vernissage "Beneath the Surface" was an evening that left room for exactly that.
